1983 Delden (Ned) Standing Volleyball World Championship

The first official World Championship for Standing Volleyball for disabled.
Among the guests present are: The mayor of the city, the ISOD chairman Cabezas, the wife of the state secretary of the Ministry of WVC, Pieter de Bruin chairman of the CEV, Comité Europienne de Volleybal and Hans Lindstrom ISOD. Medical classification examinations were performed by an official ISOD doctor (Björn Hedman, Sweden). Unfortunately, 2 countries withdrew from the tournament. Mr Pieter van Vollenhove opens the World Cup.
Apologies were received from the US (financial problems) and Czechoslovakia (visa problems) because of this 6 countries entered the Standing competition. Israel is the strongest Team, beating Germany 3-0 in the final.

The final standings in Standing Volleyball: 1. ISR, 2. GER, 3. POL, 4. GBR, 5 FRA, 6 EGY.

1983 Delden (Ned) Men's  SittingVolleyball  World Championship

The first offiical World Championship in Sittingvolleyball for men.
To allow all countries   a World Championship is  organized. Ultimately, 9 European countries register with a team. The result of the tournament is:
1. Netherlands, 2, Germany, 3 Finland, 4 Sweden, 5 Yugoslavia, 6 Norway, 7 Hungary, 8. Austria, 9. Denmark.

1985 Kristiansand (Nor) Men's Sitting Volleyball World and European Championships

At Sitting  Volleyball there is a new record of 11 registered teams. The World Cup  have a surprise winner:
1. IRI,  2. YUG, 3. NED, 4. SWE, 5. NOR, 6. HUN, 7. GER, 8. FIN, 9. AUS, 10. GBR, 11. DEN

The Iran team arrived a day late to the Championship and missed the first game. This was due to the fact that they arrived in Kristiansund (more to the north of Norway) instead of Kristiansand. Both the participating Countries and the Board of the VBC decided that Iran could still participate and had to play all its matches.
Norway hosts a combined World Cup and European Championship for Sitting and Standing Volleyball. After the classification of all athletes, the Volleyball Commission received two protests from NED and GER. Two players were disqualified for failing to reach the minimum handicap. In its meetings of June 16 and 17, the committee decided to override the decision of the ISOD medical classification and allow the two athletes to participate in the championship. During the annual meeting with the Countries, it was decided that the team can consist of a maximum of 12 players in the future. At the request of the medical committee of the ISOD, a "doping test" will take place for the first time during the competition. No positive reactions were found.

1986, July 19-22 Pécs (Hungary). Men's Sitting Volleyball World Championship

A record number of 13 countries have registered for the World Cup in Hungary
The final ranking is:
1. Iran , 2. HUN, 3. NED, 4. YUG, 5. NOR, 6. GER, 7. FIN, 8. SWE, 9. AUT, 10 . CZE, 11. EGY, 12. USA, 13. GBR.

2-8 juli 1989   Las Vegas  USA.  World Championship  Sittingvolleybal  men. 

9 Countries participate in the championship. The final standings are : 1. NED, 2. HUN, 3. GER, 4. NOR, 5. FIN, 6. IRQ, 7. GBR, 8. SUI, 9. USA.
IRAQ as a new country took part in the Championships and wishes to play a central role in the Middle East. No classification problems in Sitting Volleyball. Only the slot machines (called the one arm bandits) had more public attention than the Volleyball games. The Netherlands will play the following matches: Netherlands-Finland 3-1 (15-8, 16-18, 15-9,15-1). Netherlands-Switzerland 3-0(15-5, 15-2, 15-0). Netherlands-USA 3-0 (15-5,15-3,15-2) Netherlands-Hungary 3-1 (15-10,12-15,15-10, 15-12). In the semi-finals, the Netherlands beat Germany 3-0 (15-10,15-6,116-14)
The Netherlands will meet Hungary again in the final. This time too, the Netherlands managed to win even 3-0 (15-13,15-9, 16-14). The players of the Netherlands Richard Gesel and Renee Peeters were initially eliminated by the ISOD classifier. After a protest, they were approved by the WOVD  Board. Read more here.....

2-8  july 1989   Las Vegas  USA.  World Championship   Standing Volleybal 

7 countries participate in the standing volleyball world championship, because the Eastern European countries do not participate in the competition, due to the high travel costs. The matches take place in the Hilton Congress Hall because of this, there are many problems especially with the Standing Volleyball court. The taraflex floor was not completely one color within the field lines and was not fixed to the woolly carpet of the Hall. At the start of the matches, the organization, under Pieter Joon's supervision, painted the field in the correct color and with double-sided tape the field was glued to the woolly carpet. No further problems with the field during the tournament.
The final standing is : 1 Germany, 2. Israel, 3. Great Britain, 4. USA, 5. France, 6. Canada, 7 Australia

1990 , Juli 14-26.  Assen (NED)   World Championship   Sittingvolleybal   men.

The Championship for men is organized with 9 participating countries. The final ranking is : 1. Iran, 2. NED, 3. YUG, 4. HUN, 5.GER, 6. NOR, 7.SWE, 8. FIN, 9. GBR.
The Netherlands played the following matches: Netherlands-Finland 3-0, Netherlands-Hungary 3-0, Netherlands-Germany 3-2. Netherlands-Iran 0-3 (14-16, 7-15, 14-16)
In total, more than 12,000 spectators came to watch all Sitting Volleyball matches

1990 St Etienne (FRA)  World Championship  Standing  Volleyball

Final result: 1.Germany, 2. Poland, 3. Czech rep, 4. Israel, 5. Great Britain, 6. France, 7. Canada

1994   11-13 November Delden .   Het eerste WK  Zitvolleybal  Vrouwen

 6 countries have finally registered. Netherlands, Germany, Lithuania in group A.
Latvia, Ukraine and Russia in Group B.
The Ladies play the matches Ned-Lit 2-0, Ned-Ger. 2-0. In the semi-final, the Netherlands will play against Russia and win 3-1.
The final match is between the Netherlands and Latvia. The Dutch Ladies win this very exciting match with 3-2 (15-12, 16-14, 7-15, 11-15 and 15-10)   The Dutch women are the first World Champion Sitting Volleyball

2000 Maastricht . Het WERELD kampioenschap Zitvolleybal vrouwen

Nederland verslaat  Finland met 3-1 in de Finale en wint het Goud.   Slovenië verslaat Duitsland  met 3-0  en wint het brons

2002  Cairo (Egypte).   Het 8e  Zitvolleybal  Wereld Kampioenschap  mannen

De eerste keer dat het WC plaatsvindt in Afrika. 10 landen  hebben zich gekwalificeerd.  De  competitie levert ons veel verrassende resultaten op.
De eindrangschikking is:  1.  BiH,  2.  Duitsland,  3.  Iran,  4.  Egypte,  5.  Nederland, , 6.  Iraq,  7.  Hongarije, 8.  Japan,  9. Marokko,  10.  USA.

2002 Kamnik (Slovenië) . Het Wereld Kampioenschap  Zitvolleybal  Vrouwen.    

8 landen  zijn gekwalificeerd en we hebben geen verrassende resultaten.  In de kruisfinale won Nederland  van  Iran met 3-0.  In de halve finale was China een gevaarlijke tegenstander, maar ook deze wedstrijd werd met 3-0 gewonnen, door Nederland.  De finale ging dus tegen het thuisspelende Slovenie. Gesteund door het eigen publiek werd het een spannende eindstrijd.  Die Nederland wederom met 3-0 won ( 25-19,26-24, 27-25 ).

2006 Roermond  Wereld Kampioenschap  Zitvolleybal  Mannen. 

De volgende landen nemen deel aan  het WK:  Bosnia I Hercegovina , Iran , Egypte, Duitsland,  Rusland,  China  , Croatia Nederland,  USA  ,    Iraq  ,   Brazil   en  Japan.
De eindstand is :  1. Bosnia i H, 2. Iran, 3. Egypt,  4. Germany, 5. Russia, 6. China, 7. Croatia, 8. Netherlands, 9. USA, 10. Iraq, 11. Brazil, 12.Japan

2006 Roermond  Wereld Kampioenschap Zitvolleybalvrouwen

De volgende  8  landen zijn gekwalificeerd voor het WK:  Nederland,  China, Slovenie, Litouwen,   USA , Ukraine , Japan  en  Brazilie. 
De finale wordt  Nederland tegen China. Aangemoedigd door een volgepakte tribune nam Nederland een 2-0 voorsprong. China kwam sterk terug tot 2-2, maar Oranje liet zich verder niet verrassen en met goed spel werd de vijfde set gewonnen en het Wereldkampioenschap

2018 NED.   Wereld Kampioenschap mannen  .

Het Wereldkampioenschap wordt in 3 steden gespeeld . Venlo (2 days), Eindhoven (2 days),  The Hague (2 days), NED
Paralympisch kampioen Iran bevestigde zijn dominantie op het zitvolleybal podium door zondag (22 juli) in Nederland de WK-titel bij de mannen te heroveren.  In de finale versloegen ze titelverdediger Bosnië en Herzegovina overtuigend met 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-20) om na acht jaar terug te keren op de troon.  Spelend voor een luidruchtig full-house publiek was Iran, met Morteza Mehrzadselakjani op zijn dominante best, te goed voor hun tegenstanders. Beide finalisten verzekerden zich van kwalificatie voor de Paralympische Spelen van Tokio 2020.  Iran won eerder de edities in 1985, 1986, 1990, 1994, 1998 en 2010. Het is ook de zesde keer dat ze tegelijkertijd de wereld- en paralympische titels hebben.

 2018  NED.  Wereld Kampioenschap   vrouwen

Het Wereld Kampioenschap wordt in 2 steden gespeeld . Arnhem (3 days), Rotterdam (3 days), Zitvolleybal krijgt een nieuwe wereldkampioen bij de vrouwen nadat USA en Rusland zich plaatsten voor de finale. Paralympisch kampioen USA versloeg verrassende halvefinalist Italië, terwijl Rusland titelhouder China in straight sets uitschakelde op een dramatische vrijdag (20 juli) in Nederland. USA hoopt voor de derde keer geluk te hebben na het verliezen van de laatste twee finales tegen China, terwijl Rusland, de regerend Europees kampioen, voor het eerst de finale heeft bereikt. Beide partijen hebben zich nu ook geplaatst voor de Paralympische Spelen van Tokio 2020
